FLAT FAN SPRAY NOZZLES

Flat fan nozzles have two distinct configurations.

These nozzles stand as one of the most widely utilized types, offering a versatile range of materials and spray angles to suit your diverse applications.

Two Distinct Configurations

Axial and Deflector

There are two fundamental configurations of flat spray nozzles: axial and deflector. The axial design directs the spray pattern axially to the orifice, while the deflector design employs a deflector shield or plate to create a flat fan spray pattern. The deflector design typically positions the spray pattern between 20 to 30 degrees offset from the exit orifice. Notably, deflector designs often exhibit enhanced clog resistance due to their round orifice structure, contrasting the axial design that involves a drill/mill operation to create a “cats eye” type orifice.

Choosing the Right Design

Deflector designs, while producing slightly less impact at equivalent flows/pressure, excel in clog-resistant functionality. The narrower the spray angle, the greater the impact at a given distance, making narrower spray angle nozzles ideal for challenging cleaning tasks. Conversely, wider angle nozzles find their niche in less intensive washing and rinsing applications.
Multiple Axial Patterns:

Tapered and Uniform

Among axial flat spray patterns, two primary variations emerge: tapered (cats eye) patterns and flat fan even spray patterns. The former, characterized by tapered spray distribution, is incredibly popular. Overlapping these nozzles by around 30% enhances flow distribution uniformity, compensating for reduced flow at the edges of the spray pattern. For optimal results, we recommend offsetting nozzles within a spray header by 5 to 10 degrees. This ensures that their patterns do not intersect before reaching the target, thus maximizing efficiency.
