High Velocity Air Nozzles for Drying

Product Announcement #049 - Air Nozzles

Good News From Sonic
Although Sonic Air Systems is the industry leader of “Engineered Blower and Air Knife Solutions”, Sonic can offer more than just blowers and air knives. Sonic offers hundreds of standard and custom accessories to complement the compact centrifugal blower. Our customers are continuously finding new ways to utilize our blower systems and are demanding new and improved products at lower costs in today’s highly competitive market.

As well as remaining innovative in developing new products and processes, Sonic is also dedicated to supporting our existing product lines. Therefore, Sonic is proud to announce an expansion and improvement in the line of Air Nozzles. These improvements are also accompanied by a significant reduction in price: a 20% to 42% reduction.

Figure 1 – New Sonic Air Nozzles
The old line of nozzles were stainless steel heavy walled industrial looking nozzles. Although effective and efficient, these nozzles were heavy and expensive to fabricate. By reviewing the manufacturing process and modifying the design to complement the manufacturing process, Sonic is able to produce nozzles with equivalent performance capabilities, using multiple materials, and at a reduced cost.

Improved Functionality
The Sonic Air Nozzle was designed to optimize the high flow rate of air produced with the Sonic centrifugal blower system. Sonic nozzles have always been aerodynamically efficient (approximately 95% efficient) while remaining compact and durable.

Nozzles provide higher impact pressures and impact velocities at greater distances from the product surface than an air knife. Although the use of nozzles is relatively unlimited, most applications use nozzles for:

    1. Blind and through holes
    2. Bulk liquid removal from pockets.
    3. Surfaces that are greater than 12” away from the nozzle tip

A typical example of a requirement for a nozzle would be the top of a soda can or aerosol can. The top of a can may present a trap for a large pocket of water and usually has a lip or pull tap that is susceptible to corrosion. Since a nozzle adds relatively low additional airflow (cfm), it can be added to a system without impacting the blower selection.

Functions
  • Nozzle: Used as a nozzle to target hard to reach areas.
  • Nozzle Manifold: Used in series in a custom design manifold. Nozzle position can be fixed or on swivels.
  • Rotary Nozzle: Used with the Sonic exclusive rotary coupling (Patent Pending).
Added Benefits
  • New manufacturing process and tooling maintain or improve existing aerodynamics and nozzle performance while reducing   material and manufacturing costs. The result is a better nozzle at a lower cost.
  • If you have an application that requires directed air to target a hard to reach or troublesome area, the Sonic Air Nozzle is the right product.
  • If you have a critical drying application and need some added confidence or assurance, the addition of a nozzle can add the extra drying power for minimal system impact.
  • If you need a nozzle and can’t find the right one in Sonics’ standard product line, please call your Sales Representative and inquire about Custom components. Sonic will “Engineer” a solution specifically adapted to your application quickly and  affordably.
  • Sonic has mounting brackets available for nozzles to aid the installation. Nozzle brackets can be ordered with the new “Quick Release” handles or the original brackets at a new reduced rate.
