A REVOLUTION IN ROLL WIPING...

The CCW System is designed for mills that are unhappy with the traditional low-tech spring loaded roll wipe systems and resulting carry-over problems associated with them.

The CCW (Control of Cooling Water) System is pneumatically driven (with an 1/8" air line) to provide even pressure (which is adjustable) across the roll, regardless of crown or other roll wear. Our wiping system can be automated to swivel away from the roll when strip isn’t being rolled – greatly extending the life of the wiper blades.

The CCW System was originally designed for hot mills, however they’re just as effective in cold mills. In hot mills there are usually wipers on the entry side (to improve the effectiveness of roll lubrication fluids) and on the exit side (to reduce the steam barrier).  In hot strip mills installation of CCW Systems have increased the roll life by as much as 32% - as a result of better lubrication due to reduction of steam and roll cooling fluids being reduced.

Traditional wipers get in the way of sprays as they wear. The CCW System uses a stationary wiper body with wipers that swivel forward to meet the roll. The great thing about this system is that it can sense contact with the roll surface so that you know immediately when you’re no longer receiving effective wiper coverage.

In cold mills they can be used to prevent emulsions from transferring from the back-up roll on the last stand. When you use the CCW System in conjunction with Lechler’s Armored Whisperblast Air Knife Headers, staining issues can be completely eliminated.

The pictures below depict a scale model of the CCW System and its' controls. The actual height and width of this wiper system is about 4" by 4" and is made as long as the roll. Removing just two bolts on a hinged plate enables you to quickly replace wiper blades. And, once again, since the wipers are automatically disengaged when the mill is idle, wiper blade life is greatly extended.

Other features of the CCW System and their associated benefits are described in the following table:

FeaturesBenefits
2 wiper blades are used to perfectly seal against the roll.  The sturdy Wartex Wiper Blade provides support for the pliable rubber wiper blade, which creates a seal within 3 coils vs. 20-30 coils with standard systems.Less lubricant used
Reduced rolling forces
Extended roll life
Up to 20% reduced energy consumption
Sealing provides a drier roll surface for better lubrication and reduces cooling of product.Less lubricant used, saving energy
Secondary scale reduced
Pneumatic system provides constant pressure across the rollIncreased blade life
Wiper pressure across the roll is adjustableOptimized wiper and roll life
Simple linch-pin blade adjustment allowing 2 degrees of freedomSeals regardless of roll crown, bending, etc...
Quick and easy wiper blade replacement
Blades are controllable so they can be disengaged during idle times and allow the coolant to wash the blades and rolls8-10 times increased wiper blade life
Extended roll life
Improved Product quality
Wiper blades are held in place with two bolts allowing maintenance access from the front of the headerQuick and easy wiper blade replacement
The CCW System can be wired for remote control or computer interface, allowing for total control from the pulpit or preprogrammed control of the systemEase of operation
